Getting to site #500 - 1/7/2015

We realized that we were only three sites away from #500 so we knew that the drive south toward home had to include at least three sites.  Happily there were two more San Joaquin sites that weren't too far off the road and one Fresno that fit the bill for today!
Our first stop was Corral Hollow (CHL 755).  This was the home of Edward Carrell and a frequent stop for the 49ers heading to the Tuolumne mines.
Bella was more excited to see the cows then the site!
Carnegie (CHL 740) was a booming city from 1895-1912.
The town had a post office, company store, hotels, saloons, and homes for their 3500 residents.
It was also the home of the Carnegie Brick and Pottery Company which had 45 kilns and 13 smokestacks.
Now Carnegie is a off-roaders paradise with lots of trails and campgrounds.
Our 500th site was slightly anti-climactic!  There is no site left and no plaque, however Fresno City (CHL 488) has the honor of being our 500th visited!
From 1855-1875 Fresno City grew up at the head of the Fresno Slough.
When the City of Fresno was established in 1872 thirty miles southeast of here the town declined and eventually disappeared!
